How do I Edit Photos Found in Our Photos Section? | Family Tree Tutorials | Forum
Topic RSS
Editing images is fairly straight forward. But then again, so is brain surgery if you have been trained for it :) So, with that in mind, Here is a tutorial to walk you through the edit process.
1. Sign in and click on the Family Tree tab.
2. Now scroll down and click the administration link
3. Click the media tab.
This will bring you to this page.
This is the media page and it contains all the photos on the site. There are three columns with icons, a thumbnail (or blank field) a file name, the collection it is in and who it is linked to. The three icons are as follows:
1. Page with a pencil = Edit photo
2. Page with a red X= Delete photo **PLEASE DO NOT DELETE ANY PHOTOS**
3. Page with a checkmark = View photo
For our purposes, we are only concerned with the left and right icons. You can click the right icon to make sure that you recognize the photo. The click the left icon to edit the photo. This will bring up this window.
If the sections are not open as you see here, click the arrows (circled).
The first section is fairly self-explanatory. Type a title for the image ("John Doe 1812-1867" etc. and in the description section tell who is in the photo and when it was taken. (ie: 1943, about 1902, Circa 1870, etc.) At this point, if you do not want to link this person, scroll to the bottom of the window and click the "SAVE" button. This will take you back to the photos page where you can select another photo to edit or sign out.
If you want to link the photo to someone in your family tree, continue:
In the Media Links section, to the far right there is a smail search icon; click and in the next window, fill out the last and first name of the person you want to link it to. In the next window, you will have the names that match your search. Select the correct one and click the "add" link and then close that window. Scroll to the bottom of the window and click the "SAVE" button. This will take you back to the photos page where you can select another photo to edit or sign out. And that my friend is how you edit and link a photo. And as always, you can email any questions or even call me and I'll walk you through the process on the phone.
