Ancestry.com has just released a group of land ownership maps with almost 7 million indexed names.  A quick search didn’t seem to turn up any Southern Hinsons but did alert me to a new research tool. If you have run into a brick wall trying to find a maiden name for a great grandmother, aunt, etc. these maps will give a clue as to what other familes lived within ‘courting’ distance of your male relative. I did a search on Maryland and the map below turned up C. Henson in Howard County. Around him you can see the Claggets, Tuckers, Archers and others. Searching on these families might just turn up the missing female relative you’ve been looking for.
